Host a sock-puppet craft table for kids or share a playful social post about lost game pieces.

Promote trade-ins for games customers no longer play, and tidy the stockroom at the same time. If you already have a swap meet day, plan around this day. Also another great day to clear out older or slower moving inventory.

International Customer Experience Day

Review the customer experience from first visit to checkout, and thank customers for their feedback. It is also a good day to look over your SOPs (standard operating procedures) on your customers’ experience from walking in the door to walking out the door. Look over the details that turn a common purchase experience into a memorable one. Asking your customers for feedback is a great way to find ways to improve your customer experience.

Feature nature, pollinator, gardening, or environmental themes and support a credible educational or local conservation resource. A follow up event to Earth Day that is possible is planting flowers in a local community garden. There are a lot of possibilities of a community driven event and outreach.

National Rescue Dog Day

Share photos of store dogs or partner with a local rescue group for an adoption or donation drive. Also consider a donation event where some or all fees are donated to your local animal shelter.

An informal fan day. Invite playful social posts and staff picks of Yoda, Grugu, or any other Star Wars products. Bonus if you take to a short form video (Tik-Tok or YouTube Shorts) as part of your marketing with yourself or staff talking as Yoda.

With the end of production of the penny, this could be a lucky coin or dice day as well. Run a contest for who can flip a coin or roll a dice in a row for a small prize. As a reminder, for games of chance of discounts or winnings, please consult your legal council on what is and isn’t allowed in your state, city or town.

National Scavenger Hunt Day

Set up a scavenger hunt with clues tied to game sections and a modest prize for finishing. You can always expand this to something like a passport style hunt and involve as many businesses close to you as possible as a large street or even city wide event with coupons, discounts, or giveaways. Reach out to your chamber of commerce to see if they want to get involved, they may have resources available to you and your fellow business owners to help.

Towel Day is a tribute event to Douglas Adams based on “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.” where one of the most valuable items a hitchhiker can have. Today is also a day that started in Spain to celebrate geek culture as it is the release day of the first Star Wars movie, “A New Hope”, released May 25th, 1977.
